Snooting is something I just started and failed miserably my first two attempts. I mean literally - no photos! Total fail!! Then my mentor Billy worked with me and while it certainly didn't quite click (and I'm certain I drove him nuts) the foundation was at least put in place for some forward progress. Below if my so called forward progress. I spent a good hour in 15-20 feet of water snooting and found a highly cooperative little Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker which was quite a treat! I'll keep snooting during evening dives at Redondo to keep things interesting. It is frustrating as hell, until it actually works! Then it's pretty dramatic and worthwhile. Snooting... while it sounds like something you might do when you blow your nose, is actually a simple concept of funneling all of your light onto your subject to highlight it... light putting a spot light on a stage actor to draw in your attention. The challenge is getting that spotlight on your subject and your subject in focus (oh, and don't stir up the bottom)! Cheers!
